BACKGROUND: the treatment of caries at the initial stage of development is the main factor in the prevention of cracks and fractures of teeth, the detection of which increases dramatically in the treatment of complications of caries. The economic consequences of late dental treatment for both the patient and the CHI system have been poorly studied.
AIM: economic justification of timely treatment of caries as a factor of prevention of cracks and fractures of teeth.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: according to statistical reports of the causes of reversibility and the methods of dental treatment carried out, the frequency of detection of cracks and fractures of teeth has been established depending on the initial treatment method and the frequency of their subsequent removal over a five-year period. Taking into account these circumstances, the total costs for the treatment and restoration of destroyed and lost teeth are calculated, depending on the primary treatment method and in comparison, with the basic costs for the treatment of moderate caries.
RESULTS: the economic calculations carried out confirm clinical patterns in the effectiveness of early caries treatment and timely replacement of dental hard tissue defects, since (taking into account the likelihood of cracks and tooth extraction with a five-year prognosis) an increase in the cost of all types of treatment was revealed both in comparison with the initial cost and the present cost of treatment for this period relative to the treatment of average caries.
CONCLUSION: timely treatment of caries, as a method of preventing cracks and fractures of teeth, is characterized by high clinical effectiveness, as well as economic feasibility. Subsequent types of treatment and restoration of a tooth due to the destruction of its constituent structures and with an increase in the likelihood of fractures and cracks significantly increase the cost of necessary treatment over five years compared to the initial treatment, as well as compared with the cost over this period for the initial treatment of moderate caries.
