Cytokines belonging to the classical interleukin-1 (IL-1) family, i.e. IL-1-alpha and IL-1-beta along with IL- 18, play a key role in the development of inflammation. Other interleukins of the IL-1 family has recently been identified. They include six cytokines whose genes are localized downstream of the genes for IL-1-alpha and IL-1-beta on chromosome 2 (IL-1F5-10 as well as IL-33, a member of the IL-IR/ Toll-like receptor (TLR) superfamily). IL-1F6, IL-1F8, and IL-1F9 are agonists highly expressed in epithelial cells along with their receptor IL-1Rrp2 which suggests their participation in the protective immune reactions of the skin and the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) including the mouth. Synovial fibroblasts and articular chondrocytes also express IL-1Rrp2 and respond to IL-1F8 which gives evidence of their possible involvement in the development of periodontitis.inflammationinterleukin-1periodontitisвоспалениеинтерлейкин-1пародонтит[Anderson E.
