One of the perspective for the study of the markers of periodontitis is a gene polymorphism of the vitamin D. Vitamin D is able to exert influence on the pathogenesis of periodontitis through the effect on calcium metabolism on the one hand and the immune system on the other, it is the effect of indirectly through the vitamin D receptor (VDR). This review demonstrates the increased in recent years the interest to the influence of gene polymorphisms BP on the development of chronic and aggressive forms of periodontitis in different countries. The data of the literature on this issue is quite erratic, which can be attributed to genetic heterogeneity of samples, as well as various parameters of comparison.
