Experimental comparison of the anti-inflammatory effectiveness of boswellic acids and diclofenac in periodontitis combined with arthritis
Abstract
Rabbit experiments showed that periodontitis was more severe in those animals that also had bilateral knee arthritis. The combined inflammatory pathology was associated with intensive inflammatory infiltration of periodontal tissue, bony tissue resorption in the alveoles, and the appearance of solitary necrotic foci. Diclofenac and boswellic acids, non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs, demonstrated nearly equal effectiveness. The use of these agents favored cessation of inflammation in the periodontum and joint tissue and intensified elimination of the gingival pocket and gingival inflammatory infiltration, moderately activating osteogenesis as well. Unlike the use of boswellic acids, diclofenac application was associated with a clear tendency towards the development of anemia.

Optimization of pulpless tooth preparation for aesthetic restoration
Abstract
An instrumental ("Easy Shade") study of the effects of six anchor post types and four stump materials on the color characteristics (AE, AL, AC, and AH) of a tooth covered with a whole ceramic dental crown was carried out. The study established very strong matching of the color parameters of whole ceramic crowns, fixed on all stump materials. The best result was achieved when a stump made of Te-Econom material was used. Crown color change according to the integral parameter after stump armoring did not exceed the range notable by the human eye. The authors recommend that the use of metallic and carbonic anchor posts for frontal tooth restoration be limited; ceramic or fiberglass posts should be used instead.

The application of the mineralizing material BV for fissure caries prevention
Abstract
The creation of a mineral substance layer on the bottom of a natural fissure and an artificial defect on extracted human tooth enamel, as well as on experimental dog molar enamel, proved to be possible using the mineralizing material BV; this was evidenced with electron scanning microscopy. The layer of the mineral substance was covered with Fisseal C, a sealing material. The study found that sealing material application is an obligatory condition for a long preservation of the mineral layer on the enamel.

Experience in the orthopedic rehabilitation of patients after undergoing mandibular bone plasty using microsurgical autoplasty
Abstract
The authors report on orthopedic rehabilitation carried out in 36 patients after mandibular bone plasty using microsurgical autoplasty. An all cases satisfactory functional and aesthetic treatment results were achieved. The authors determine methodological positions on the rehabilitation of this category of patients.

Local oral immunity correction in chronic generalized periodontitis in patients with syringomyelia
Abstract
The authors studied the influence of 5-oxy-4-methyluracil, a pyrimidine derivate, on local immunity in chronic generalized periodontitis in patients with syringomyelia. The study found that 5-oxy-4-methyluracil efficiently corrected local immunity in these patients; ultraphonophoresis increased its efficiency.

Periodontal tissue during orthopedic rehabilitation with metal ceramic prostheses in persons with non-differentiated connective tissue dysplasia
Abstract
The article is dedicated to the topical problem of dental treatment of patients with connective tissue dysplasia. Earlier studies evidenced serious changes in periodontal tissues in this fairly widely spread pathology. The authors performed their indexed evaluation during the orthopedic treatment of 30 patients carried out using 120 metal ceramic constructions. The study results demonstrate that the condition of the marginal periodontum worsens after treatment. In this connection, the authors recommend individual approaches to patient preparation for orthopedic treatment and the use of such individual approaches during the course of the treatment.

Adaptation of middle-age people to full removable dental prostheses depending on their psychoemotional status
Abstract
The psychoemotional status of 29 middle-age toothless patients was studied; changes in their psychological character- istics were evaluated in the course of the treatment and adaptation to full removable dental prostheses. According to the study, orthopedic treatment lowers situational anxiety and neurotism, increases social activity, and has positive influence on personal characteristics; these changes appear as soon as at the beginning of adaptation to prostheses.

Evaluation of the results of clinical application of ultradisperse fluorine hydroxyapatite for the fixation of temporary crowns using rheodentography
Abstract
The functional condition of the pulp of teeth used as the support for metal ceramic prostheses was studied using rhe-odentography. After odontopreparation without tooth pulp removal under local anesthesia, provisional crowns were fixed on Temp Bond cement for temporary crown fixation; the cement had been mixed with ultradisperse fluorine hy-droxyapatite produced by Polystom. The study was carried out before odontopreparation, then on the 3d and 10th days, and 3 and 6 weeks later. The study found that dental tubules obturation caused by ultradisperse fluorine hy-droxyapatite as an ingredient of temporary eugenol-free cement lowered the risk of pathological pulp reaction after odontopreparation for non-removable prostheses, and quickened the reestablishment of pulp blood supply.

Evaluation of the quality of life of patients using full removable dental prostheses with the soft pad GosSeal
Abstract
The authors studied long-term results of orthopedic treatment of 82 toothless patients with removable dental prostheses with GosSeal soft pad; quality of life was evaluated using A. Borracchini questionnaire. The use of the Russian silicon hot polymerization soft pad GosSeal significantly increased the quality of life of most patients after tooth replacement with full removable dental prostheses. The presence of a fairly large proportion of persons experiencing discomfort caused by removable prostheses suggests that follow-up of such patients is necessary.

The role of the immune system in the appearance of hyperergic maxillofacial inflammatory processes
Abstract
Twenty patients with phlegmon of the inframandibular and mental areas and the submasseterial space were examined. After rendering qualified medical aid, venous blood samples were taken on the next day; immune status was evaluated by cytofluometry. Qualitative markers - CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4/CD8, CD20+, CD16+, and functional markers CD95+, CD23+, CD25+, Anti-JgM, and CD71 - were determined. It was demonstrated that patients with hyperergic inflammatory process had signs of secondary immune insufficiency, which was characterized by a decrease in the number of CD4+ cells, a decrease in CD4/CD8 ratio, and disbalance of cells carrying activation markers. These data substantiate administration of immunotropic therapy to such patients.

The role of autoimmune disturbances in the development of atypical facial pain
Abstract
A hundred patients with atypical facial pain (AFP) were examined; mean age of the patients was 36 years. Serological immune parameters - myeloperoxidase (MPO) antibodies and myelin basic protein (MBP) antibodies - were measured with using immune-enzyme assay. The results were compared with results received in the control group. The study found chronic pulpitis in all the patients with AFP. Clinically AFP manifested by hypestesia or hyperestesia. Elevated immune parameters (MPO and MBP antibodies) evidence that primary inflammation of small vessels (microangiitis) is the basis for AFP; microangiitis leads to lesion in the terminal nerve distal segments in a form of demyelinization.

Experience in treatment of temporomandibular joint pain dysfunction syndrome
Abstract
Raloxifene, a non-steroidal antiestrogen, was used in addition to complex orthopedic, medication, and physical therapy to treat temporomandibular joint pain dysfunction syndrome in postmenopausal women with clinical manifestations of general osteoporosis. The treatment resulted in hormone balance restoration, fluorine and calcium exchange normalization, and other favorable changes; signs of temporomandibular joint pain dysfunction syndrome disappeared for a long period of time.
