The dynamics of histochemical characteristics of experimental chronic periodontitis during surgical treatment with new regeneration stimulators

Medzhidov M.N.

Abstract

Using a histochemical method during 7 days to 6 months, the author found that a combined graft containing recombinant human thrombocyte growth factor BB (becaplermin), fibrin-fibronectin system (Tissukol), and ultrahigh-dispersity hy-droxyapatite (Ostim-100) stimulated regeneration more effectively than Ostim-100 alone when surgical treatment (a standard flap surgery) of experimental chronic periodontitis in rats was performed. It was found that the combined graft provoked intensive osteogenesis in the bone tissue adjoining the graft as well as at a distance. Bone tissue structure recovered completely in the alveolus, periodontum, tooth cement, and the dentogingival junction below (up to 1/4 tooth root length) the anatomic dental cervix. The application of Ostium-100 alone led mostly to a chronic inflammatory process in the experimental area and intensified resorptive processes in surrounding tissues.

Morphofunctional characteristics of gingival microcirculation under the influence of lymphotropic application of perftoraneas a part of complex treatment of mandibular fractures

Magomedgadzhiyev B.G., Rasulov К.М., Magomedov M.A.

Abstract

Changes in gingival microcirculation in the area of angular mandibular fracture in rats enhanced with regional lym-photropic application ofperftorane were studied. Compared to controls, subjects administered perftorane developed less pronounced exudation, while microcirculation was restored more quickly due to better rheology of blood and a greater number of functioning capillaries.

Assessment of the antibacterial effect of calcium-containing pastes for canal filling

Ivanchenko O.N., Ivanova Y.V., Zubov S.V.

Abstract

The article presents the results of an in vitro study of the antibacterial activity of pastes containing calcium hydroxide used for temporary or constant obturation of root canals. The following materials were assessed: Metapaste (Biomed Co., Ltd., South Korea) for temporary root canal obturation, Vitapex (Neo Dental Chemical, Japan) for temporary and constant root canal obturation, and Acroseal (Septodont, France) for constant root canal obturation. When the antimicrobial activity of these preparations in 0.1% solutions was assessed, no activity against the most prevalent infective inflammatory periodontal pathogens (Fusobacterium spp., Peptostreptococcus anaerobius, Actino- myces spp., and Streptococcus intermedius) was found. When each paste was studied "as is", without dilution, on the Streptococcus sanguis strain, only Metapaste demonstrated strong antimicrobial activity.

Application of lactobacterin immobilized on collagen in complex treatment of chronic catarrhal gingivitis in children with immunodeficiency

Sokolova S.I., Yelizarova V.M., Kovylina O.S., Volozhin A.I.

Abstract

The subjects of the study were 67 children and adolescents aged 6 to 15 years; 26 of them suffered from primary forms of humoral immunodeficiency (PFHI), and 41 were controls. The PFHI patients had higher indices of hygienic condition of the oral cavity and theperiodontum, which evidenced a low level of oral hygiene and the presence of periodontal inflammation. After conventional antiinflammatory therapy which included Metrogil-dentgel, patients with severe PFHI had the highest frequency of exacerbations, patients with moderate one had lower frequency, and the controls had the lowest frequency. The use of the so called Periodontal Bandage With Lactobacterin stabilized the condition of the periodontum in PFHI patients and prolongated the remission of gingival inflammation.

The clinico-microbiological characterization of the dynamics of the microbial colonization of polyurethane and acrylic plastic-based removable dental prostheses

Ogorodnikov M.Y., Tsaryov V.N., Sulemova R.K.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to investigate microbial adhesion to a range of plastics used as the basis for removable prostheses in patients with total or partial teeth absence, as well as to polyurethane-based basis material. The study found that the most important representatives of stabilizing microbial flora of the oral cavity are able to colonize dental prostheses based on cold polymerization acrylic plastics, and that the quantitative parameters of colonization are higher than those of virulent bacteria and Candida fungi. The peculiarity of colonization of removable dental prostheses based on hot polymerization acrylic plastics is that such important components of microbiocenosis as Veillonella spp. and S. salivarius are displaced due to excessive multiplication of alfa-streptococci, pepto-streptococci, and virulent anaerobic bacteria able to maintain purulent inflammatory processes, as well as Candida fungi. The investigation also revealed that the most important representatives of stabilizing microbial flora of the oral cavity are able to colonize polyurethane-based dental prostheses, and that the quantitative parameters of colonization are higher than those of virulent bacteria and Candida fungi. Thus, polyurethane-based dental prostheses have advantage over acrylic-based prostheses that are colonized by aggressive bacteria and Candida fungi, which may be accompanied by inflammatory reactions and intolerance. The data obtained suggest that polyurethane-based removable prostheses should be recommended for orthopedic practice to prevent inflammatory complications and improve orthopedic treatment of patients with partial or total tooth absence.

Standards for the work of a dentist under new working conditions

Kalininskaya A.A., Shlyafer S.I., Mescheryakov D.G., Trifonov B.V.

Abstract

The article presents the results of an experiment on the processing of organizational forms. Irrational use of nurses is a weak link in dentistry lowering the efficacy of dentists' work and having a negative effect on the quality of dental aid. The work of dentists with high or higher education does not differ much. The problem of the rational use of these specialists according to their professional knowledge and skills is still unsolved. It should be stressed that the efficacy of a dentist's work abroad is 3 to 4 times higher not only due to better financial supply, but also due to the presence of assistants at a dentist's service. Specialists with high educations, including dental assistants, should be trained, and their activity should be regulated.
