The effects of dimephosphonum on lipid peroxidation and antioxidative activity of the saliva and gingival fluid in the elderly with periodontitis
Abstract
Forty-one patients with moderate chronic generalized periodontitis were subjected to different treatments. It was determined that the adding of 15% water-solution of dimephosphonum into the therapeutic regimen provided more effective prevention of the inflammation process that conventional therapy. Under the influence of the preparation the intensity of lipids oxidation was reduced and the antioxidant activity was increased so as the catalyze activity in the gingival fluid of elderly people. The positive effect of dimephosphonum use in curing the periodontitis was connected with its antioxidant and antihypoxic properties.

Microcirculation changes under the action of mexidol used in complex therapy of chronic generalized periodontitis in patients with arterial hypertension
Abstract
This study of microcirculation in inflammatory periodontal diseases showed that periodontal tissue microcirculation worsened to different degrees depending on the severity of the disease. The inclusion ofmexidol in complex therapy of chronic generalized periodontitis in hypertonic patients led to efficient elimination of tissue and circulatory hypoxia and improvement in local and system capillary blood flow.

Gender-related features of chronic generalized periodontits in the elderly
Abstract
The frequency and degree of changes in generalized periodontitis reversely correlate with living standards and the level of oral hygiene. Of late, there have been a lot of publications concerning the frequency of periodontal pathology in some system diseases progressing in the elderly age. This problem is one of the most topical ones in dentistry not only because of the high prevalence of these diseases, but also due to difficulties in their treatment, in particular, the fact that tissues do not regenerate completely in the presence of comorbidity. Periodontal pathology has unfavorable effects on alimentary function and psychoemotional sphere, depresses the resistance to infectious agents, and lowers the quality of life, especially in the elderly.

Qualitative and quantitative characterization of immunocompetent dental pulp cells
Abstract
The results of a comparative immunohistochemical study of dental pulp carried out using monoclonal antibodies to CD3, CD20, and ND68 are described. Pulp from the patients with caries, acute and chronic pulpitis in combination with periodontitis on different stages was received, the qualitative and quantitative characterization of dental pulp immune cells - O- and B-lymphocytes and macrophages was performed.

Abstract
An analysis of the diagnostics of tumors in the area of the processus alveolaris of 45 patients was performed. The analysis found significant devergencies between the preliminary diagnosis and the results of pathomorphological verification of tumors and tumor-like formations. The article discusses objective causes of such divergences.

Clinical, juridical, and socioeconomic sequellae of the doctors' mistakes and complications in the maxillary teeth extirpation
Abstract
We analyzed 618 clinical case histories in patients with odontogenous maxillary sinusitis treated surgically at the department of Maxillary Facial Surgery of Smolensk State Medical Academy, Regional Clinical Department of the Regional Hospital. In 91 patients operated on for the tooth extirpation (removal), foreign bodies have been detected in the maxillary sinus. Every fifth hospitalized patient has been presented with a different type of complication. Correct diagnoses have been identified in only 17.6% of all admitted cases. Specialized treatment has been provided to only 14.3% cases and the cost involved came to 904982 rbl. The presence of foreign body in the maxillary sinus appeared as a bright argument to establish the fact of "medical mistake" involving the hazardous complication and also social economic and juridical sequellae.
