Forgotten aspects of maxillofacial surgery and prosthetics (essay on A.I. Stepanov)

The purpose of the study is to provide information about the life and professional activities of a military doctor, dental prosthetist Alexander Ilyich Stepanov, who with his proposals left his considerable mark in maxillofacial surgery and dentistry.

Material and methods. The basis for the preparation of this article is based on the information available in the Russian literature on dentistry and maxillofacial surgery, as well as military medicine about A.I. Stepanov.

Results. The paper notes that Major of the medical Service A.I. Stepanov is known as a dentist of the Clinic of Maxillofacial surgery and Dentistry of the Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov. He was a highly qualified dental prosthetist, and knew well not only clinical dental prosthetics, but also laboratory techniques for manufacturing dental and maxillofacial prostheses and various orthopedic devices used at the stages of treatment and dental rehabilitation of maxillofacial wounded and patients, as well as oncostomatological patients. For doctors of maxillofacial surgeons and dentists, A.I. Stepanov was remembered for improving the splint for holding fragments of the lower jaw, the design of which was previously proposed by M.M. Vankevich.

Conclusions. Alexander Ilyin Stepanov has done a lot for military healthcare, as well as dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. His name should not be forgotten.
