Abstract

Results of neutron activation analysis of substances using tagged neutron technology are rather sensitive to errors in measuring the parameters of γ-ray spectrum peaks. This is the reason for taking into account both the Doppler effect that leads to the shift and broadening of γ-ray spectrum peaks and the anisotropy of the γ-ray yield as a function of the angle between the directions of tagged neutrons and detected γ‑rays. The angular dependences of the shift and intensity (relative area) of γ-ray spectrum peaks for carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen nuclei have been measured at the tagged-neutron facility. The impact of the Doppler shift and anisotropy of the angular distribution in tagged-neutron devices is observed in analysis of extended objects and in case of the cascading arrangement of γ-detectors when γ-rays hit detectors at different angles with respect to the direction of tagged neutrons.
