BACKGROUND: In modern dentistry, dental implantation is considered one of the most advanced methods for restoring chewing efficiency. However, the use of non-original abutments offered by third-party manufacturers raises discussions about their impact on the long-term outcomes of prosthetics. This study aims to evaluate the influence of choosing original and non-original prosthetics on the stability of bone tissue surrounding installed implants.
AIMS: To determine whether there is a correlation between the use of original or non-original prosthetics and delayed prosthetic outcomes based on clinical cases.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of orthopantomograms from 40 patients was conducted. These patients had Straumann BL (Switzerland), Nobel Biocare CC (USA), or BioHorizons Tapered Internal (USA) implants installed, with a follow-up period of up to 11 years. The condition of bone tissue around implants and the percentage of peri-implantitis development was calculated.
RESULTS: The chi-square test revealed no statistically significant differences (p>0,05) between groups using original and non-original abutments. Individual clinical cases confirmed the absence of a direct correlation between the type of abutment and long-term prosthetic outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: The type of abutment does not have a statistically significant impact on the success of prosthetics but is likely part of a broader set of factors that collectively influence delayed outcomes.
